New South Wales Health Care Interpreter Service: The First Fourty Years

2017

The NSW Health Care Interpreter Service began as an informal service catering to the needs of a growing multicultural Australia.

In 1977 it was established as an organisation within NSW Health that pioneered language interpretation in the health sector. It is now a recognised leader in the field, both nationally and internationally.

An often thankless job that requires sensitivity and tenacity, interpretation is a largely invisible service. This publication aims to highlight the service's first forty years of high achievement.

The publication was accompanied by a website with a timeline of the service’s history.

A live client brief completed at UTS, with Andrea Sigmann, Wilson Leung and Judy Dao.

2018 AGDA Student Award Finalist.
